Total Time = 7h 00m
Overall Rank = 2360/10082
Age Group = M45-49
Age Group Rank = 211/706
Pre-race routine:

Decent night sleep, spaghetti dinner with an IPA.
Event warmup:

Warmed up inside a bit downtown, headed up to event. A little stretching, but not much.
Run
  • 3h 43m 30s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 08m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Calf strain came back around mile 10, after the "big climb" behind Please Tough Museum. Arghh! Decided after a couple miles that it wasn't getting worse, seemed to stabilize. Other stuff started hurting anyway, so it all kind of balanced out. Was originally aiming for 3:30, but with schedule turned upside down due to calf strain, was aiming for sub-4:00, and finishing (first full distance marathon)
Post race
Warm down:

Traffic jam at finish! Volunteers could have been more spread out. Heat sheets and medals were all bunched up. Walked around a bit, then sat down to stretch. NEED TO BRING STICK FOR GEAR BAG.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calf.

Event comments:

POST RACE FOOD: COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. NEED MORE PROTEIN!

List of interesting sights/costumes:
1. Trash bag guy; wearing two trash bags, about 70 years old, but hey, he's out there!
2. Power walker starting in first corral!?! Was toward the front of black corral, and we passed him within a mile of the start.
3. Spiderman suit; looked like cycling outfit. Spidey was hurting around 25 miles.
4. Brer rabbit. White rabbit hat, strapped on like a helmet. Over 6 ft tall.
5. (Two) Minnie mouses.
6. Dancing Taco and company cheering us on.
7. Batman playing Rocky tunes on trombone.
8. Drummer with really bored dog in east Manayunk
9. R&B band in Manayunk. Could have been more upbeat.

Performance: Good
Course: Started off very comfortable in the 7:30's, though I wanted to start slower. Maybe that isn't needed after-all. Could probably have maintained low 8:00s if the calves and feet were stronger. Partly conditioning, could also be shoes and foot strength.
