Overall Rank = 176/
Age Group = MALE 35-39
Age Group Rank = 29/140
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am, had a PB&J sammich and headed out.
Event warmup:

Stretch, jog, put on my wetsuit and pre-swim. Gatorade Prime and a cliff bar.
Swim
  • 16m 39s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim is not my forte - just tried to stay under 17 mins and go as hard as I can. Was lucky to be able to draft off a person who was swimming in a straight line and at my pace.
What would you do differently?:

Just get better at swimming.
Transition 1
  • 04m 44s
Comments:

Since I was racing as a part of the team, I decided to swim without a shirt, and put on my bike jersey after I get out of the water. Well, the damn zipper fell apart right as I was going to get on the bike... had to come back and swap it for my running jersey. 2 mins down the drain.
What would you do differently?:

KISS - swim in my tri tank.
Bike
  • 53m 16s
  • 18 miles
  • 20.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Easiest bike course ever - so that even the celebs can do it. Did well, and was passing a ton of people. Of course, I was riding my roadie... and it is hard to get below 50 mins on that course without a TT bike. Wind drag is too significant.
What would you do differently?:

Getting a TT bike this fall - should be able to shave off 8-9 mins.
Transition 2
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

No mishaps here, thank god.
Run
  • 28m 55s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Relied on the water stations. They were handing out this nasty concoction called Splash - took it at the first station. Ended up with nasty cramps after the 2nd mile - never again. Lots of SLOW people on a narrow course - 20-25 secs wasted maneuvering around them.
What would you do differently?:

Not much... don't take crap drinks.
Post race
Warm down:

Met up with the team mates and the family. waited for the transition to re-open at 10am and then headed out for a massive lunch at the Islands!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weak-ish swim, wardrobe malfunction at T1.

Event comments:

This year the volunteers on the run portion were mostly 12-14 year old kids who really did not want to be there. It showed. Not sure if I'll be back next year.
