Run
Comments: Started off nicely with a leisurely jog out from the start (haha 5:06 for the first km, WAY to fast!)… saw a guy running bare foot, WOW, crazy!!! Check above for pacing (km 15 included a potty break), I think I hit my wall at about km 33… really had to concentrate to stay in the game at this point, even running downhill hurt! Down hill is supposed to be my catch-up… what the hell!!! From this point I was thinking about the finish and how great it was going to be to see my family and hug my wife. The pain was going to be worth the feeling of true appreciation for what we have and the smiles and hugs. Oh and there were Oreo's! Nice… All in all I came in under 4 hours on my first Marathon, pretty proud of this. Fuelling through out was good my concoction lasted until about km 39'ish… pretty good again. Couldn't bring myself to eat any solids, might have been a mistake, but I don't know. What would you do differently?: Pacing… STICK TO THE PLAN! Still finished around the average pace I was shooting for. Post race
Warm down: Sat on some stairs while trying to put on my compression socks with seizing Hammies… have to say this was the most painful part of the race. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. NEED to hit those long runs so I don't hit the wall!!! Event comments: Think I might do this one again at some point. Want to really work on my Half and 10k speeds first though. Last updated: 2011-10-17 12:00 AM

Had a whole wheat bagel with some peanut butter… mmm… followed that with a coconut water mixed with carbo pro. Hilary drove to the race location while I manned the music, a little Ozzy some Stevie Nicks and the feeling of excitement was rising and taking over the feeling of shear fear and self doubt about my training and missing too many of my long runs.
Went to the the porta-john for a little relief prior to the start. Walked through the event and picked a great spot (right beside the bright orange Jugo Juice tent) to meet up with the family after my run. The kids seemed to be generally excited to be there? I think it might have had something to do with the pancake breakfast… hmmm… Hopped in one spot for a few minutes to warm up while listening to the pre-race speeches and National Anthem. RACE TIME!!!
