Overall Rank = 68/272
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 16/53
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area, chit chat with tri-friends and put the gear on
Event warmup:

Not really enough. I swam just a bit but didn't stretch at all for my lower body. So, for the start of the bike, my legs were not ready.
Swim
  • 12m 43s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

The sun was in a bad spot so it made it hard to see the 3rd buoy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I felt really good during the swim, stayed on course, and wasn't passed by anybody.
Transition 1
  • 03m 43s
Comments:

I had to pack up my swim stuff (wetsuit, cap, goggles) into a bag so they can bring it to the T2 finish area. That took a little time trying to wad my suit up to fit into the bag given to us. Transition area was around 1/4 mile long so it took a bit to get through. No real problems though, the wetsuit stuck just a bit but I believe it was because I was pulling it over the timing chip. Something I hadn't practiced yet.
What would you do differently?:

Probably have my shoes on the bike already. But, running barefoot through the 1/4 mile transition didn't see very appealing. I was right in the middle of the transition area. I had the 11th fastest time in transition so I guess it was fine.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 1s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 11.81 mile/hr
Comments:

I was only able to get in the saddle about 4 times before the race. I purchased the bike 3 weeks prior and it rained the whole 1st week. I just didn't have the bike conditioning to hang with the big boys.
What would you do differently?:

Train a lot more on hills. Know the course inside and out.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Running shoes went on without issues and didn't have any problems. Transition area was still long, but my legs were ready by the time I got onto the run course.
What would you do differently?:

Take 1 more big swig of cytomax off my bike before I hit the run. Aid station was at the 1 mile marker.
Run
  • 26m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Did most of my passing here during the 1st half mile. Had an 8:47 1st mile, 8:45 2nd, and followed up with an 8:32 I believe. Got progressively faster.
What would you do differently?:

Didn't really train enough on the run and when I did run, I only ran 1.5 and 2 mile distances. I need to break down and get some real distance work in (at least the length of the course)
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training more and staying on course

Event comments:

Need to have the bike course ready to go before the start!

Course: At the start, a gate covering the road was still closed and locked so us at the start had to dismount our bike and run around the gate and mount back onto the bike and start again. My chain popped off 35' into the bike; So, I had to get off, upend my bike and fix it. Turn it back over and continue. Then, there was an unmarked turn that me and a handful of others passed. I stopped 1/4 mile after the missed turn and turned around taking me 1:45 going down hill just to get back. Turns out the person showed up but was really late getting there. All in all, it cost me 5-7 and a lot of energy consumed (climbing the hill that wasn't part of the course). Total elevation for the bike portion was 1695'.
