Comments:

The swim seemed to take forever. I had my chip knocked off at about .8 miles into it so I started worrying about that. For the most part I stayed out of trouble and had my own room but I think I was way too far outside and was not able to keep the distance reasonable. According to my Garmin I swam 3+ miles which is crazy. I did become very tired during the swim.
What would you do differently?:

I was a little overconfident in my swim ability. I would put more miles in swimming and do more drills to pick up speed.

Actually I moved pretty good through transition. There isn't much I'd change.

Comments:

This was a humble experience for me. I am not used to riding this slow. I was trying to pace myself although the heat and hills beat the crap out of me. Oh yes and I forgot to top off my tires which I let air out of the day before to keep from popping at transition during the hot day it sat there. So I was riding on about 80 - 90 PSI. Should have been at 110 -120 PSI. Big big big mistake I paid for later. I also failed to execute my hydration and nutrition plan. At about mile 65 I noticed that my arms were bone dry and I was starting to cramp in my legs. My head started to hurt also. I stopped at the med tent at about mile 70. Sat there for about 45 minutes drinking juice and eating some fruit trying to decide wether to go on or not. One of the guys stated that they were going to shut the course down in about 30 minutes so I decided to get back on the bike and continue. I stopped a few more times with about 1 hour and 15 minutes in total stops and lots of leg cramping along the way. Not Good. I finished the 112 mile bike course 1 minute and 23 seconds too late at 6:21:23. They would not let me run as I needed to be in by 6:20.
What would you do differently?:

I need a lot more miles and hill training in my routine. I would also tape my gel packs to my top bar to remind me to take them. i saw a lot of people with their gels taped to their top bar. it would also save me from tearing them open as could tape them and just rip them off to take in.

Post race
Warm down:

Sat in the med tent with ice on my head for about 40 minutes feeling totally dejected. Sfter they took my chip I instantly became a nobody with the exception of a woment that came up to me crying because of how close I was to making the cut-off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training hours. Also I was not totally comfortable with the training plan I was on. I had a coach but felt a bit disconnected most of the time. I just think our styles did not match up. Also I will limit the family members I include in this experience. My mother was convinced I was going to die from a heart attack on this day. Next time it will be just me, myself and I. To have people close to you more unsupportive is extremely detrimental to performance although by no means an excuse.

Event comments:

I am doing this again next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
