Swim
Comments: The swim is my weakest link! I was hoping to be out of the water in an hour...I surprised everyone! Especially me! I guess those workouts and swim lessons helped! The water temp was perfect. Being in the 4th wave, the water wasn't so churned up and rough, and I made it halfway before I had anyone swimming over me! I think I like open water swimming more than the pool! Especially with a wetsuit! What would you do differently?: Maybe not sight as much and definitely not look back! And more practice! Transition 1
Comments: Well I had to stop at the port a potty and that ate up a couple minutes...other than that, I brought an extra towel and bottle of water to wash off my feet before I put my socks and shoes on. That was a good choice! I am not brave enough to jump on so I ran my bike out the old fashioned way and took off' What would you do differently?: Took care of "business" completely before putting on my wetsuit! Bike
Comments: Headwinds, crosswinds, and cracks! I wasn't riding very fast for the first 15-17 miles and by the time I realized my front brakes were rubbing, stopped and adjusted them, there was no upping my average. I was riding with a disc and I was getting blown around a bit and didn't stay in aero as much as I would have liked. We did drive the course Sat. and I took notes. That helped alot! What would you do differently?: I would check my brakes again before I left T1 and wear a more aero top and ride more hills in training. Do some leg strengthening in the off season perhaps. Transition 2
Comments: The run is my strongest sport so was looking forward to it! My Mom and boyfriend were at the run out, and my son was just past the first water stop. That helped pick me up after the less than hoped for bike! Run
Comments: Was babying a sore quad from trying to make up time on the bike. Had a good plan for the loops, but finishing was more important. So I ran except for when I stopped at the stops for water, sponges, etc. Not as fast as I hoped, but I didn't cramp or worse, lock up! And I got my socks wet on the second loop. Should have stopped to take them off. I now have a blister on the bottom of my right foot! What would you do differently?: Train with no socks for this distance. Post race
Warm down: Had some water, a beer and a bag of Doritos. Was glad to get my shoes and wet socks off and sit down! Collected my stuff, went back to the hotel, showered and napped. Then had a purple margarita and cheese enchiladas at Baby Acapulco's! What limited your ability to perform faster: Wind Sore rt quad Wet socks Event comments: This was my first HIM! I had a great experience and will do it again! Thanks to all who planned, executed and volunteered! Well run event! Last updated: 2011-10-24 12:00 AM

Had a great pre race dinner at Maggiano's with my Mom and boyfriend/training partner. Got up at 3:45 for coffee and protein shake. When we were ready to go at 4:30 I picked up some cream cheese for my banana bread and had a banana. We made it to the arena at 5. I checked on my run bag to be sure it was ok, then we boarded the bus. I went to set up my T1 while Dewey helped with unofficial Ironman air. Aired up the tires, checked nutrition, bike and bagged it up and waited...listened to Ray Wylie Hubbard to get race ready!
I was in wave 4 so there wasn't much warming up other than getting in the wetsuit and stretching and windmilling my arms.
