Swim
Comments: Sprinted the first little bit to get in the front of the wave. Our wave consisted of all the Clydsdales, Athenas, Relay teams, and everyone who was under 19. After I got towards the front, I switched to backstroke since it was a straight shot to the first turn and I had bouys to guide off of. What would you do differently?: I need to work on increasing my distance swimming. I used to be a sprinter on the swim team. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit stripper was great. I grabbed a cup of water going into the transition area. Dried off as much as possible, threw my wetsuit down and put on my arm warmers. Flying mount was much better. What would you do differently?: Dry off all the way so I can warm up faster on the bike. Bike
Comments: Took a little bit to get my shoes buckled. I was really cold for at least the first 10 miles. After that I sped up some. I saw a lot of people with flats from all the debris on the course. Very glad I had arm warmers. I wish I would have put on pants. Had some trouble getting my shoes unbuckled going into T2. The photographer was about 400M from the transition area, so if he took any pictures of me, they are all either finishing buckling my shoes, or getting out of them on the way back. What would you do differently?: Get better at buckling, unbuckling my shoes on the bike and figure out a way to get warm quicker. Transition 2
Comments: I got passed by 4-5 people right before T2, but they all were still in their shoes. I hopped off my bike and ran to my spot and slipped on my running shoes. I heard a spectator comment on how fast I racked my bike threw down my helmet and put on my shoes. That really motivated me. My dad didn't even make it from the dismount line to the run out before I did. I did get slowed down a bit because the bike in lane was narrow and there was someone walking their bike to their spot. Run
Comments: I wish I would have looked at the run course before hand, because I would have worn shoes with a little more aggressive tread. I really pushed myself for the last mile once my calves loosened up. It felt great. What would you do differently?: I really need to figure out how to keep my calves from being so tight at the beginning of the run. They didn't loosen up until about 1.75 miles in. Post race
Warm down: Whatever kind of promotional water they had at the finish line was disgusting. I walked around to the different tents, had some pizza and beer and waited for the awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing in particular. Event comments: I don't need to show up 30 minutes before transition opens. I feel like I would be better at longer distances because I don't feel like I'm "in my groove" until the end of the bike and run. In order to do that though, I need to work on my swim a lot. Got to the race way to early. I actually was there before most of the volunteers.
I was wearing sweatpants and a hoodie to try and stay warm. We were able to go into a building for a little while to stay warm. I did a short run to get loose.
