Total Time = 4h 35m 1s
Overall Rank = 1/1
Age Group = 30-30
Age Group Rank = 1/1
Pre-race routine:

Last night I watched part of Rocky with the training montage, on AMC. Seemed appropriate.
Event warmup:

Placed special needs at T2.
Swim
  • 39m 43s
  • 1650 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

After a year of swimming, I still have the worst form ever. My coaching literally begins tomorrow. It's about time.
What would you do differently?:

swim properly
Transition 1
  • 17m
Comments:

Weird circumstances made for a long T1.
What would you do differently?:

Not much honestly.
Bike
  • 1h 47m 26s
  • 24.92 miles
  • 13.92 mile/hr
Comments:

Mentally prepared for last 10 to be far harder than first 15 due to my difficulty getting up any incline. Was pleasantly surprised to get it done smoothly.
What would you do differently?:

Be lighter and go faster.
Transition 2
  • 10m
Comments:

Stopping to do my civic duty and vote definitely added time, but the RD was cool about it.
What would you do differently?:

Not vote.
Run
  • 1h 40m 52s
  • 6.35 miles
  • 15m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Watched the sunset on the last half. Had to gallo-walk the first half, but really felt strong bringing in the end.
Post race
Warm down:

RED ROBIN. 22 oz Oktoberfest, Burning Love burger and gingerbread milkshake that oops! had a shot of Jim Beam. No no, I'll take it that way, don't make another one.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

You keep asking this question. When will I be asked "what helped you do well today?" We all know I'm large and slow. But all things being relative, it was awesome. Having my wife and son check in throughout the course was motivating, as was running by my daughter's schoolbus with her on it, knowing she'd join the two of them at the finish.

Event comments:

How could I complain? I designed it, beginning to end. All I could add is the ability to custom order the weather. It looks like I did just that.

I think this has to become an annual event. Same course, go for new PRs. Maybe move the date to a more sure thing for temperature. I'll talk to the RD for next year.
