Age Group Rank = 24/39
Pre-race routine:

Woke-up around 4AM and reluctantly ate breakfast; the stomach didn't care for food that early. Loaded the car and drove over to Shadow Cliff.
Event warmup:

Set-up my transition area, stretched, drank water, and ate a honey stinger.
Swim
  • 40m 50s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was my best OWS to date. With that said, I was feeling every bit of yesterday's 3,000m swim training. Right now I am participating in the half ironman training through Golden Gate Triathlon, and the coach instructed me to treat today as though it were training, only.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't taper, so, maybe I'd consider a small taper in the future.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

I thought this transition was much longer.
Bike
  • 1h 21m 16s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.35 mile/hr
Comments:

The legs were also feeling yesterday's run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. This was merely a training ride, otherwise I would have tapered.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

I did not realize my shoe laces were not laced through the eyelets on my left shoe, so I spent a little time fixing it. Other than that, I'm a little surprised this transition was 1:48 as it felt faster than that.
What would you do differently?:

Double check my shoe laces. Tried Yanks already but did not like them.
Run
  • 56m 18s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

I really hate running on gravel. It never fails; I step on top of every sharp rock on the entire route, and my foot always lands with the point of the rock jamming in between the joints in my foot. I'm glad I wore trail shoes. Overall, this was a good run, and i felt like I kept my pace fairly even, which was my goal. Stopped at the BMX track to use the restroom on the first loop; thank God there was a porta-john because I had to go so bad after the bike that running 6.2 miles without a bathroom would have been hell.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. My plan was to maintain a steady pace.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched. Grabbed a Muscle Milk and some water. Then, walked around for a while, packed up the car, and finally drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I approached this race as merely OWS practice with a bike/run brick. So, I was not out here to set a PR today.

Event comments:

A big improvement over last year.

Course: 2 loops around a hard packed jeep trail with too much gravel. Undulating course; a couple of the hills were fairly steep. Right now, my feet are really unhappy, and the uneven gravely nature of the running surface did not agree with me, my feet or ankles.
