Swim
Comments: I am now totally convinced that my swim will never improve unless I drop about 45lbs of muscle mass. At 6' and 215lbs, it doesn't matter how perfect or flawless my stroke... my mass is such that I will always ride "low" in the water causing such a dramatic increase in drag that my times will always suck. :) What would you do differently?: I needed to be more in the center of the channel... I got to close to the docks on the first leg and wasn't able to take full advantage of the current. Transition 1
Comments: about a 400m jog over asphalt to the transition area. Bike
Comments: HOLY CARP!!! The first twenty miles were an adventure. The 50 degree temps, drizzle, 20mph head and crosswinds made for a VERY cold ride. Not to mention the near miss of a kamikaze kitty at mile 17 not being in my race plan. Along I-140, a feral black cat decided at the last possible second to cross the road. I saw the lil black demon with snowy paws pop his head up over the grass... next thing I hear is a freakish "MEEEEEEEAAAAAR" as kitty bolts across the road. I was in the aero position and had no hope of hitting the brakes in time so I winced and prayed kitty had his nutrition of Kibbles & Gu correct... I just barely grazed his tail with my front tire as he passed in front of me. "Happy Halloween little buddy... I think I just shat my tri shorts." What would you do differently?: wear gloves and rain jacket, oh and modify my bike with a cat guard up front. Transition 2
Run
Comments: The run out was decent but the run back was a bit to slow. I would have liked the second 6.55mi to be 8-10 mins faster but I am chalking the slower time up to the headwind coming back through town and the pee break in the bushes in the park. What would you do differently?: should have taken a long sleeve shirt for the run. Post race
Warm down: um... searching for warm clothes. What limited your ability to perform faster: the wind was a killer all day. Event comments: Next year... I think it will be time for the 140.6 Last updated: 2011-11-03 12:00 AM
