Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5 AM and had granola bar, banana, and cup of coffee. Also started to really push the water and drank as much as I could comfortably drink.
Event warmup:

Spent most of my warm up time in line for the bathroom. All the pre race water got to me.

Comments:

Finally a half marathon I can be proud of. Ran water stop to water stop only stopping long enough to chug water then got back running until I hit mile 11. No cramps today which meant I hydrated better today than last month. Finished with my best finish time ever!
What would you do differently?:

Think the only thing I would do differently would be to start farther up. It took some time and extra work to get up to my 10 min/mile pace with all the slower runners in front of me. At one point I got stuck behind the 10:45 min/mile pace team and couldn't get out from behind them for at least a mile. Overall very happy today though.
Post race
Warm down:

Warm down by finding my wife and children in the stands and getting some pics. Then ran to the car because I was freezing cold. Passed on the post race food this time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really. Just a slow start but a slow start was probably for the better...gave my legs a chance to warm up properly.

Event comments:

Love the Illinois Marathon weekend. The 5k was wall organized on Friday night as was the Half Marathon Saturday morning. Awesome course that is completely flat which makes for an easy run. Hoping to come back next year for Full Marathon!

Course: Course was mostly flat with a few very small hills. Around mile 7 we ran thru a park with tall prairie grass. Race ended on the 50 yard line of Memorial Stadium at the U of I campus.
