Swim
Comments: Start was really bad. Fought back the first 120 meters till I took a foot to the throat. Had to pull up and cough out all the water. Canoe folks were nice, asked if I wanted to hang on or get in, I said no and just breast stroked for a minute or two, then resumed freestyle. Heartrate never really came down and I was short of breath the whole time. That was different than I was expecting. What would you do differently?: Start late. Just wait a minute or two then go. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went well, took a moment to try and calm myself from the swim experience. What would you do differently?: Not try to remove my wetsuit top with goggles and cap in hand. It won't all fit through the hand opening. Bike
Comments: I got passed alot. What would you do differently?: I tryed to hang right as much as I could so people could pass, but I needed to pass a few people up hill so I took over to the left a few times. 4 wide at one point, little nervous. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, still felt strong. As I was racking the bike and putting on my shoes they announced the winner. Oh well, I wasn't out here to do anything other than finnish. But it did motivate me well in the run. What would you do differently?: Drink less. I felt watered down the first 3/4 mile. Run
Comments: Good run. Good support from everyone who could see I was about to die. Things got better after the turn, then it was all downhill. I got passed alot. Post race
Warm down: Eat oreo, drink water. Walk around a bit to relax. What limited your ability to perform faster: Me. I will train faster from here on. Event comments: A good time. I learned alot and had alot of fun. Last updated: 2006-04-30 12:00 AM

This was my first race. No routine to speak of other than drink alot and try not to be nervous.
Got in the water early to do a little swimming. I had not practiced open water swimming for years. Swimming was fine and got used to the temperature real quick.
