Pre-race routine:

My parents came up the night before and we went out for a great supper. My mom was coming so she could jockstrap and my Dad headed over to his fathers house to help pack up his house to get ready to sell..kinda funny but my mom and I did the same thing after my race at my house. Well back to the race day got up and then headed out to put my bike on my car and it was pooring. So Mom and I got ready and drove the 15 minutes to the race and it was actually still dry there..not for long though. Got there and headed to pick up my packet while trigods(chris) melissa, abnd zeke(bigtex00) took my things to the transition for me to ensure a great spot. WHat a great group. Got the packet and found out I was number 57!!! About time I have been at the end of most races but finally towards the front. Got set in transition and chatted with the BT gang plus found Mike(special K) and talked a bit with him and wathced the clouds comein.
Event warmup:

Did some warmup laps in the pool and then talked with my mom and the rest of the gang before the start.

Comments:

Another time trial start and they where putting us in alot faster to get everyone out on the course before the storms got in. Well this was in my mind disaster because everyone was on top of each other and really messed with my times. I had to stop on several occasions because I could not get around and so that added extra seconds. Swim felt good but I was a bit dissapointed on my times. I was hoping for about a 5 minute swim but was about a minute off. Who knows how much was due to the fact I kept having to stop and oh I suck at touching the wall then going under the rope to get started again. Oh I olny got passed by two people so not bad plus I went by a few when I could.
What would you do differently?:

I really need to spend time in the off season working on flip turns into the next lane.
Transition 1

Comments:

ong transition compared to my 57 second from last week but the transition area was along way and you had to run over roots that were covered wiith carpet so I made sure I did not miss step. Oh and the rain was starting. It was not hard but it was rain.
What would you do differently?:

Gonna also work on having shoes on my bike before my half.

Comments:

Well this was another Tennessee rolling hill course. First it was raining so that added a little new spin on the mix. Again it was not that hard ut going down hill it was a bit different. Well anyway off on the bike and as usual started getting passed but I finally told myself who cares and whats that really got to do with the price of eggs in china. So I am moving along and finally get passed by the second part of the two headed chris(trigods). I could tell he was still a bit sick but dont let that fool ya he was moving along passing justabout everyone in front of us.Yhen the candy can machine driven by Mike(Special K) wen t wizzing by as well. So There was some decent hills around mile 5 and 11 but the course was never flat long enough to get in a rythm so it was up then it would level for a bit then roller after roller then up again. The good thing is I have finally been able to pass people now. One guy and myself passed each other several times but it was our on game. We would stop and talk a bit so it was cool. Finally I get to the off road course thrown in. Many people talked about the last three miles and it was how do i saw terrifying at times. The roads where some of the worst I have ever road on and actually was like riding off road. As I was coming down one hill I was for the first time scared to death and sensing i was going to wreck due to the ruts, chipseal, pot holes, and such. I was holding on for dear life and when one is going 28 miles per hour unstable..no good. Well got through it with out any reall issues and headed back into transition.
What would you do differently?:

TITS TITS TITS. And got to get the weight off. But getting better. Seems the courses get a bit tougher and I am keeping the same speed I have done on easier courses so maybe I am getting a bit better.

Comments:

Well the run was another building block to a one day successful tri season. I am actually getting better pacing my self and limiting my walk breaks. The course had a few rollers and one decent size hill so I feel good about my overall performance. Again another typical awesome reason why triathletes are awesome people is the continuous support out on the course and when they do it they are sincere about it. Along the course I got to see Zeke, and Renee(rrizzzo) so it was awesome to see familiar faces but even more awesome as I was running I ran into several other athletes that said they have seen me at other races so even though there are alot of people out there its still a great community in Middle TN. Well I finally got to where I could hear the music so I knew I was close so I kept up and was glad another tri was almost in the books got in the finish shoot and sprinted in for the first time so man I left something out on the course but hey you learn and you get to race again!!!!
What would you do differently?:

Keep pushing. Really want to break into averaging 9 min per mile then one day 8 then 7 and fnally ultimate goal . minute miles for a 5k.
Post race
Warm down:

Got back with the BT group and my Mom and waited to see the rest of the ones to finish. One of Chris's and Renees Tri group members did the whole race with his daughter just like the Hoyts. My mom met them at one race and this was one of the other reasons she wanted to come to see such an amazing inspirational moment. So seeing them finish really touched me and anyone that was around. It kind of put things into perspective. Headed up to the food tent got some grub and looked for my next ex...oh well didnt meet her so got to keep on.Lots of good prospects so we will see next season. I keep saying next season because this was my last true local race since I am training my next two months for my half IM in east TN so I am coming back next year to start placing!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Same old story about 55 extra pounds but besides that keep on keeping on and it will come!!

Event comments:

Again Team Magic put on another successful race filled with great volunteers, awesome post race activities, and just plain providing a great day.I do hope rhey get that road fixed because I feel it could cuase some serious wrecks if not careful. Oh and always the two headed chris was out in full force, then of course renee, zeke, mike(specialk). Oh and of course it was great and meant alot my Mom got out again to wathc. Its funny she is now becoming a pro at this. She know knows where to go to get the best pictures and I am tring to talk her into doing a tri next year!! We will see I hope she will.
