Pre-race routine:

Well Friday was a great day. First I found out I had sold my house so going home was like a new start about to take place. Even though I lived there for 22 years it was different this time. I will get more into that in my blog in the coming days but anyway I was on a good high even though I have been working 10.5 hour days in a 105 degree warehouse. Well got home and waited on Zeke to get there and we went to race packet pickup. Since this was my hometown it was kinda neat. Chris(Trigods) asked if I would havethe most jockstrappers there but most of them had just got in from the bars a couple hours earlier. So Zeke and I rode the bike course and headed back to my house for dinner. My mom cooked a great big pasta dinner then afterwards Chris and I rode the bike course again. Went to bed early and slept sound.
Event warmup:

Got up had a bagel and then rode to the race which was about a mile from my house. Saw alot of people I knew and somehow Chris and I got hoo dooed into putting in the swim lanes. Well stood around for a bit and then met Belladad which was cool to meeet more BTers then the bottom fell out of the sky. It was quick but most things got soaked. Loosened up again then got in line for the swim start.
Swim
  • 03m 31s
  • 210 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decent swim. I somehow signed up for the elite swim start so I was scared I would get passed by tons but only two so not bad. Once I dove in my goggles filled up with water in one eye so had to slwo down to get it out. Besides that not uch else. A short swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not dive. Do the lifeguard entrance.
Transition 1
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

My fastest T1 to date. It could have been the hometown crowd but who knows. Oh 1st place in my AG!!!
Bike
  • 1h 04m 25s
  • 16 miles
  • 14.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Well I still suck at biking. I just must realize until I get my diet on track pushing 240 pounds sucks. Anyway ride started out good. Rolling along pretty well but my HR was pumping so took it a bit easy because I knew what was coming. Made the turn on the bypass and hit the hills. It was pretty much up and down but all of a sudden there went Chris he was hammering the bike. So up and down those long hills which is good because its my new training grounds and I am excited. back to the race got passed by lots of people as usual but one funny thing was a guy passed me at the top of a hill and then my sheer weight took me flying by him. I made the comment that I had extra restrictor plates but as he passed me again on the nest up hill I was like damn restrictor plates. Well as I was making it back to town my chain came off and I was almost to a complete stop trying to use my derailur to get it back in but wham I fell over!!! Got back to the top then saw the cheering squad.
What would you do differently?:

Get rid of the restrictor plates!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Pretty decent T2 decided to go with out sock which would come back to cause some issues about the mid point but anyway off to the races.
Run
  • 33m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Well it was neat because the run started through the old part of the cemetary which was a route I had run several times so I knew it well but as you left the cemetary you headed to the football stadium and made one lap around it oh one of the volunteers recognized me then and ran back to her car and got her camera to take a picture which was neat. Anyway we then hit the walking trail and up back to the rec center to see the crowds and continued on. It was neat the run went right by my street and back to the finish. The run was alot better than the week previous so I wasreally glad of that. Oh and when I got done the heels of my shoes were blood stained(forgot to put the pbody glide in the heels)
What would you do differently?:

Still learning to run hard, Just have to find the pain threshold and get as close to it as possible.
Post race
Warm down:

Talked with all the people I knew had some water an then got interviewed by the paper. So it was neat. Then Chris and I went to the Hickory House for some great food!!Oh and watched Chris get is hardware!! Great job Chris.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Restrictor Plates!!

Event comments:

Had a great time racing in my hometown!! Glad to know I am moving back to a town that has a great group training regiment and some of the best rideing potential around!!
