Swim
Comments: Not sure why, but my head wasn't in the swim. I had hoped for a sub 5 swim (or right around 5) so even considering having to go under lane ropes and long way from pool side to timing mat, I didn't likely swim as well as I had hoped. Got passed once, somehow looking down into a diving pool as the lanes got into deeper and deeper water started to mess with my head since I'm used to swimming in a pool in one lane with no depth change. Not really sure why I started to focus on that, didn't make me anxious so much, but I was distracted by it a bit which took my groove away in swimming. What would you do differently?: not focus on changes in depth. Get my head in the game a bit more, I was off at the start. Transition 1
Comments: I felt a bit more winded than I expected as I started running hard leaving the pool to hustle since I wasn't feeling as good about my swim as I had hoped, I had to slow it down and I think this cost me some time as I was more winded than I needed to be. What would you do differently?: slow and steady leaving pool to transitions, leave what happened in the pool in the pool and get my head ready to ride. Bike
Comments: hills are never great for me as I don't have a road bike. So, I have to work harder to get up hills which takes me longer than it should. Overall, my head was in a good place, I was happy with my performance on the hills despite my crappy bike. I took time to feel the breeze and take in the moments on the downhills and just enjoyed the ride. What would you do differently?: get a new bike (someday) Transition 2
Comments: I ran/walked with my bike. What would you do differently?: work on running entire distance in transition with bike Run
Comments: I had in my head hoped for closer to a 9 min/mile but after the hills on the bike I am pleased with myself. Improvement in time from my first Tri, I'll take it! Post race
Warm down: walking, stretching What limited your ability to perform faster: not used to hills on my crummy bike so that may have impacted my legs for the run a little. Overall, I was very happy with myself. Event comments: Awesome volunteer support, organized, very much an attitude of "you can do it" as this Tri is geared toward empowering women to get out and Tri. This was felt throughout the race experience and added to the overall event in a really positive way. Loved the event and can't wait to do it again next year with friends I plan on recruiting to get out and do their first Tri! After I finished I waited for my sister to finish and then we headed over to the pool to cheer on the last group coming out of the pool. This has to be my favorite part of the event, we were giving high fives and really pumping them up as these were ladies who were new to this (and likely any event to it's liking) It was amazing and humbling to witness it. usual rice cake and pb and banana, water for breakfast, a few bites of protein bar and water an hour before and then about 20 min before spoonful of pb. Set up transition identical to my first tri as it seemed to work for me.
light stretching, walking
