Event warmup:

Swim and stretch
Swim
  • 16m 47s
  • 660 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really slow swim, even for me. Need to work on sighting as I got off line over and over, probably swam much further than required. Also, old SCUBA wetsuit not designed for fast swims. Need to get a new tri wetsuit.
What would you do differently?:

Work on sighting
Transition 1
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

First time using new bike with clip on shoes. Had shoes already in clips and ran out of T1 and placed feet on shoes to start and then strapped in after getting some speed. Overall pretty smooth 7th in group.
What would you do differently?:

Get wetsuit off smoother
Bike

Comments:

First race on new P2 that I just got a week prior. Big improvement and only gonna get faster as I get more time in the saddle.
What would you do differently?:

I can race harder. I was blown away that I never got passed even once but I probably could have rode faster and would have with a push.
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

I did really well getting off the bike and running into T2 as well as racking the bike. But then I made one of my stupidest mistakes yet. I started tying to cram my left running shoe on my right foot and actually succeeded before realizing my mistake. A good 40-45 seconds wasted. DOH!
What would you do differently?:

Put shoes on right feet. In my defense, it was my first time putting running shoes on in T2 as I used to put them on in T1 when I had peddle cages on bike. Wrong feet error won't happen again and other than that I had a good T2.
Run
  • 21m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Did great on the run. My second fastest 5K ever, not just at end of tri. I think part of the credit goes to my P2 and the fit for keeping legs fresh for the run.
What would you do differently?:

I can run harder. I'm still learning just how hard after bonking in some earlier races. That experience makes me too conservative early in the run.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to work on swim and get a tri wetsuit. Great bike for first time out but I could have rode harder. Fantastic run but I can run harder.

Event comments:

De Soto is a great place to race. Beautiful location. I'll be back.
