Tried to stay in the shade at the athlete's village in Hopkinton. Drank water and Nuun about 40 minutes prior to the race. Dropped off my baggage at the bus and then headed to the start. Had a roctane gu right before the start.
Event warmup:

No specific warmup - some very light stretching in the starting corral.

Comments:

Boston 2012 will be remembered for the heat. Very, very warm for a marathon. I think I survived the heat better than many of my competitors. I faded slightly over the 2nd half due to hills & heat, but not too badly. My qualifying time was 3:22:49 and I almost met that time. Many folks in the race were 10, 20, 30+ minutes over their projected time. I am very proud of my race given the very warm conditions (over 80 for much of the race)
What would you do differently?:

I really don't think I would do anything differently. My fueling & hydration were good. My training (Pfitz 18/55) had me ready for the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked as much as possible after the finish. Drank a recovery drink - really could not eat anything. I was a little bloated from all the water, gatorade, gus, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat

Event comments:

This was my first Boston and it was very memorable for the hot conditions. It definitely lived up to expectations. The crowd support was amazing. Given the hot conditions and the course, I am very satisfied with my effort. I faded slightly over the 2nd half, but finished just slightly over my pr and qualifying time. Very happy with my race - I will be back again to try again in cooler (hopefully!) conditions.
