Swim
Comments: Actually, I had a similar experience in Lake Pontchartrain, NOLA, with the Nokia Sugarbowl Olympic Triathlon in 2004. That swim was so awful and difficult that I swam more in prep for SATri. I think I was better prepared, no panic attacks, goggles fogged only once, kept an eye on the buoys. It was actually the best part of the tri for me, even if my stroke wasn't up to par. What would you do differently?: More open water swims! Transition 1
Comments: Are you insane??? My husband runs and jumps on his bike, me? I'd be comedy relief for the spectators if I ever tried that..... What would you do differently?: find a port-a-potty! Bike
Comments: After gulping so much Bay water, I couldn't take in much more fluid. That became my downfall. Enjoyed the Jelly Bellys though! What would you do differently?: Not push as hard into the head winds as often as I did. Transition 2
Comments: Almost forgot to take my helmet off :) What would you do differently?: find the port-a-potty! Run
Comments: For some reason, my run official run time is not listed, therefore I didn't receive an overall ranking. I did finish prior to the cut-off time, announcer annouced my name as I crossed the finish line, rec'd my SAT medal. My first 5k was 43:36.96, and the second 5K was 47:41.26 - 1hr 31 m 17 secs total. What would you do differently?: I used a 4 min jog 2 min walk plan, but felt awful - disoriented, wanted to vomit, couldn't get a deep breath, etc, so I basically walked most of the run course. Splashed lots of water on myself to cool down at every water stop, but next time I will carry salt tabs with me to countereffect so much bay water ingestion. Post race
Warm down: Finally found that port-a potty! Went to lie down by the water and sleep. My husband met me at the finish line and took care of me :) What limited your ability to perform faster: I beleive the over ingestion of bay water from the swim; almost every breathe water went down the tubes. This lead to overhydration and my stomach cramping up which led to the n/vomitting sensation and not being able to take a full deep cleaning breathe. My opinion at least. Event comments: Really enjoyed the race! Will be ready at the computer Dec. 1, 2006, to sign up for next year's. Don't know what happened to the run times though; interesting that some people had only a T2 time of 100+ minutes. Really strange! Definately recommend this triathlon! My husband & I woke up @ 4a.m. and headed over to the race site; we were body marked, entered transition, set-up our belongings. I lucked out, my bike slot was next to one of the only, if not only, light posts in the transition area! :) Very easy to locate my bike after the gods-must-be-angry swim!
Did a lot of walking from swim area, where our Jeep was parked, to the transition area. Sipped some water, Gatorade, as planned and trained for.
