Run
Comments: The run was supposed to start at 8AM but the race director held it up for about 5 minutes (there was a line at the 4 port-a-jons). In his defense the registration doubled in the last few days so they didn't plan on needing more facilities. I figured it like this, I'm used to long slow runs. It has been a while since I just ran a half marathon (that wasn't part of a half iron). I was looking at maybe a 2hr run. I did my usual rabbit start and ran sub 8's for the first half of the race. This was pretty good for me because I'm not fast. The hills were tougher in the second half and my quads were getting stiff. I enjoyed everything about the course, and there were a lot of spectators cheering us on. I had a serving of infinit which was carried in a regular water bottle. My fuel belt was an IMFL casualty and never made it back home. Most of the infinit made it in my mouth. I was slowing down to 9 minute miles when I saw the finish line and tried to sprint in. My average pace was 8:22 so I couldn't have done much better. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: After crossing the finish line I was handed a medal, water, and a cool beanie cap. Now for food. We walked around and finally found a tray of breakfast burritos. They were very good, lots of egg and some sausage. After chatting with other runners we went to a health store and had lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just being slow. Event comments: This was the first year of this race. It was awesome. The race reminded me of a Thunder Road marathon, but on a way smaller scale. These people had their act together. The course was well marked. There were plenty of spectators, and houses to look at. There were a few aid stations, not many, but enough. Oh yea, there was only one port-a-jon on the entire run course. It was at mile 3 and I did use it because there wasn't a line. They had these computers at the finish line. You could type in your bib number and hit print. The thing printed out your race results like a cash register printing a receipt. On the way home we noticed that the results were already posted which is awesome. There was also a finisher video. Yes I will do this again. Last updated: 2011-11-30 12:00 AM

arrived at the hotel the night before. We picked up our packets from fleet feet, then ate at the outback. It worked out great because all three things were within a mile of each other. We went to bed about 9.
Woke up at around 5am. It seems odd to be waking at 5 and have to kill 3 hours before the 8am start. I had a couple cups of coffee and a pb&j bagel.
