Bike
Comments: The race starts at a comfortable pace as the wave spreads out over the first 15-20 miles. It is important at this point to not get to comfortable and be left with a slower group of riders. After feeling warmed up, I pushed forward to the lead group from the wave. This group of about 50 stayed together until the climb in High Cliff, maintaining a pace around 23 mph. After High Cliff, about 20 of the riders were able to regroup and stay together most of the remaining miles. The group was nice to ride with to allow some time drafting. However, it would have been nice to have more people taking a pull at the front to allow for a better overall pace. There were only about 3 people that were taking a turn at the front and everyone else just sitting behind. It was the approach that I was hoping to take. However, whenever the pace fell below 20 mph, I would push forward to see who would go with me. What would you do differently?: I would move up 1-2 waves to find a group of riders at a similar pace to ride with. Post race
Warm down: Eating everything in sight that we had at the team tent. Event comments: The race is very organized with significant number of volunterrs. I was wondering how many of the intersects of the 90 miles that I would need to navigate with no assistance. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were people at every intersection, either police at the busy intersections or volunteers on the country roads. Last updated: 2011-12-12 12:00 AM

Ate the usual Cliff bar and drank a bottle of gatorade.
Wife was not feeling good, so I let her sleep in and biked over to the starting area and met up with the rest of the group from RedPrairie.
No reason to warmup for a 90 mile race. Just took a team picture and tried to stay warm until the start.
