Pre-race routine:

Ate a Cliff bar and drank a bottle of gatorade.
Event warmup:

Walked around and light stretch until heading out into the cold
Run
  • 4h 50m
  • 26.2 miles
  • 11m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Mile 1-8 - The first miles were run comfortably at a pace slightly faster than planned (9:10-9:30), but I was holding back so felt good with the pace.

Mile 12-mile 16 - The run on the trail felt good to be back on the trails, though it felt slow when behind others on the hills. Some of the hills were muddy, causing some slippery spots to watch for. The challenge was the climb up the tower at the turn around. Between the tower and the trails took it out of my legs and reduce the pace the return.

Mile 17 - serious cramping of the left thigh, causing me to walk for a section, which was the only walking that I did other than on the trail when forced to by others

Overall, I felt good about my first marathon; though would have liked to have been under 4:30.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get in more long runs in training, along with trail runs.

Try to reduce business travel leading into the event, this made it tough to get in the distance.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to stay on my feet to keep from tighening up

Tried to get some food and water to start the recovery process.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Insufficient training (long runs and hills for trail section)

Event comments:

The organization of the event has been improving. They added another aid station on the cource, but it was part of the half-marthon cource. Once past the turn around for the half-marathon, there was only 2 aid stations.
