Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4 and ate oatmeal, prptein shake, and apple sauce. Michele went with me today and the kids were at my parents last night. Got there early and found a decent spot. Found Shannon, Stacie, Adam, Ryan, Matt, Jen, Erik, and Julia. Hung out with them and just chilled and set up TZ.
Event warmup:

Good dynamic warmup, and a short 10 minute run. Lot's of bathroom breaks here. Short swim to just get used to the cold water. It was a bit chilly at first.

Comments:

Alright. I started back in about the middle. Big mistake. The gun went off and I got caught behind some slow swimmers and was actually push under water, or run over by someone. Oh well. I just couldn't break free form the slower swimmers so I just kept going. I knew it was short and should have started up by the front. It was real wavey due to the jet skis helping patrol the water. We had some huge waves. Got to the first bouy and then settled in and caught some waves coming back in. Still had to struggle past some slower swimmers. Ok swim.. I wanted to be under 14 minutes and I stood up in the lake to run out and my watch said exactly 14 minutes. I said out loud "damn" Funny. Looked at Mike Ricci and said I had an ok swim!

Comments:

Very good bike leg. The fastest MPH was around 27 so the course ws fast. Started pretty easy and got my HR down. Then picked it up and jsut went steady the whole way for the first 5 miles. Picking people off left and right. I did not get passed. on the bike. Well by a car who was honking. Anyway, I just stayed in a zone and watched the MPH. I was aroud 25 most of the time. Nver really pushing it too hard. One of my best bike splits, and races ever!
What would you do differently?:

UH! NOTHING!
Transition 2

SEcond overall, not bad! The fastest was 20 seconds, DAMN.
Caught Steve Pye at the bike T2 entrance. I knew I had to hussle though T2. I have never beat him and he beats my by 1-2 minutes in a sprint. Kept moving and got out infront of him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.

Comments:

So my thoughts are, I jsut need to hold Steve off. He is a super runner and kicks my ass on any day. So I went out pretty easy for my standards, and began passing people. got up on the hill and picked it up a bit. I thought I would see Steve by now, nope. So I kept plugging away, thinking about high cadence only. Passed some more, saw All the crew, they all looked good. Got to the turn around at 9:45. Felt good, I wanted to negative split. Turn and there is Steve, just seconds behind. So I pick it up and just relax. Feeling really smooth and now picking off top agegroupers in my agegroup. Get to the hill back to the finish and put in the kick. If Steve was gonnal catch me, he would have to kill me first. I beat him! I also caught another guy in my age graoup and was 3rd in my agegroup.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race

Event comments:

Wow! 5430 sprint was awesome! 1200 people for a sprint. I was third in my A/G and won a homemade award and a hat and 2 tickets to steamboat ski area. Nice. Food was great, hanging with the buds was awesome, drinking beer, it was all good!
It is really wierd how good I felt today. It was really ZEN like. Which means Nationals won't be as stellar. Oh well, I had a blast and It is always fun hanging with the crew and dring beer.
