Pre-race routine:

After waking up at 4AM the previous morning to meet a friend to help him out at the Mt. Washington auto road bike race, he returned the favor and woke up with me at 4:30AM to head over to catch the shuttle bus to the start. I hung out talking with him until I had to head over to warmup for the swim.
Event warmup:

Nothing serious, I just swam enough to get used to the water before the start...
Swim
  • 48m 10s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

A bit more choppy than I had anticipated, but otherwise a good swim for me. Unfortunately, a good swim for me, is still relatively pretty terrible, so I did not come out of the water in a good spot.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim better...
Transition 1
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

My original nutrition plan involved me eating an entire Clif bar at this time, but I found it difficult to choke down, and only finished 2/3 before discarding the rest...
Bike
  • 2h 56m 55s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.99 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a lot of fun on this course. The hills were a bit rough, but I'd tried to train for these, so they weren't too bad. Passed a ton of people, which was a lot of fun! Heat doesn't bother me too much on the bike, but I was aware that it had heated up, and was a bit worried for the run to come...
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. Always room for improvement, but this went fairly well in my opinion...
Transition 2
  • 03m 1s
Comments:

Once again, tried to choke down another Clif bar, and was even less successful this time. Only managed a couple of bites. Clearly too dry to handle in a race environment.
Run
  • 2h 03m 57s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I could tell at the beginning that it had gotten hot, and was already feeling it a mile into the course. I basically felt terrible for the entire run. My only victory was that I did run the entire course, despite desperately wanting to stop and walk for the majority of the time.
What would you do differently?:

I always run poorly in heat, so this is generally something I just have to deal with...
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with my friend and gave him the play by play...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I would have preferred it to be less hot and humid!

Event comments:

This was my first HIM, so considering that, I was relatively happy with my time! :)
