Run
Comments: I had a lot of anxiety about this race--I've taken almost 2 weeks off of running to deal with ITB issues. Felt good starting out on a beautiful course--knee pain hit about 15 minutes in and I was afraid it was going to be a long day. Kept the leg straight for a while and kept off the steepest slope on the roads, and it went away! Came back around mile 10, and Jason's started to hurt too! We walked it out and went on to pick up the pace considerably! It was awesome to run with him again, chatting occasionally and laughing with (and sometimes, at) other runners :) And NO IPOD! How about that???? It felt so great to run again---i just get something out of it that I can't get from cycling or swimming :) What would you do differently?: I don't know if I was bound for ITB issues or not, but I think I rushed the return to training for a race :) Post race
Warm down: Shrimp and grits and Shock Top! We stretched and lounged and relived the race, and Jason got me an awesome sparkly bandana that I had been coveting on other runners during the race :) Ice and foam rolled once we got back to the hotel :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Not my heart! I was just trying to "take it easy", a little hard to do for a half marathon, I know :) Oh, and my toenails are already black and blue again :( Event comments: I had my fuel belt and blocks, so nutrition and water were not a problem for me. But they ran out of cups on the course, medals afterwards for slower runners (not me this time :)) and water afterwards, also. I needed to pee the hole time but didn't want to wait for a porta potty :) Last updated: 2011-12-23 12:00 AM

This was a first for me: rising and shining with a boyfriend and doing a race together...and being happy about it :) Jason is just the best boyfriend and race partner ever :) Coffee, oatmeal, banana, cold meds, and foam rolling pre-race. We walked to the race start and cuddled before the start---chilly!
Walking to the start, stretching, keeping each other warm :)
