Swim
Comments: Had to breast stroke more than I would have liked. It was crowded for the first 200-300 yards. Kept hitting people and I am not use to that. It would throw me off a bit. I ended up swimming out to the side to by by myself. What would you do differently?: Do more OWS Transition 1
Comments: I felt good coming out of the water and passed several people on the way up to the transition area. Bike
Comments: The course was dangerous. Right from the start, I came out of the transition area and within 200 yards from the start, a guy crashed and took 2 bikers out that were right behind him. He was right next to me and I saw him go down. I was planning on going slower on the bike course but it just felt too slow so I stepped it up. The first loop was awesome. Came around for the second loop and got mixed in with many of the slower bikers and it got crowded and insane at time. There were times were were 4 across on the road because of all the different speeds people were going. There were large groups of riders that were riding together. I tried very hard not to draft but at times you were stuck in a pack. I think that helped me with my overall time because when I got stuck in a pack, I pushed to get in front of them. Transition 2
Comments: Felt good in the transition Run
Comments: I felt really good coming off the bike. My first mile was an 8:30 but started feeling the effects of the heat. I don't know what the temp was but it felt hot. I ended up walking every water stop and getting 2 and 3 cups of water. I couldn't get enough down. Was dumping ice and water on me the entire time. I tried eating but couldn't stomach the food. I gave up and just kept up with the salt pills and water. I had to walk a couple of the up hills. Ended up running the last 2 miles with another competitor that was overheating as well. It helped talking with someone. It wasn't a death march but it was brutally hot. Post race: My legs are fine (Sunday morning). I am just not a heat type runner. I really don't think I went to hard on the bike. I felt really good coming off the bike. Post race
Warm down: No warm down. I had to get out of the sun. After I finished, I took all my stuff back to my car and just sat in my car with the air conditioning on full. In about 10 mins, I had drank 3 bottle of gaterade. It was warm but I didn't care. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat. Event comments: I wasn't able to eat anything until about 5pm that night. My stomach was still very much upset with me. In hind sight, I think I should have drank more on the course or took the time and drank a whole bottle of something in the transition area before the run. Last updated: 2011-12-25 12:00 AM
