Run
Comments: The first half I was right where I wanted to be. Mile 7 I picked it up and was feeling great then I got a knot in my right lower calf. I really thought I was done but stopped for 30 seconds and stretched it out. I was good again until about mile 10.5 but it knotted again then I stopped for 30 and it released but I knew if I pushed it I was risking injury so I just kept a steady pace. I only missed my goal of 1:45:00 by 1:53 and that was with two thirty second stops for the calf and not being able to push the second half. I finished feeling like I had a lot more in the tank. What would you do differently?: I'm not sure. I don't usually get calf cramps. Dehydration wasn't the issue and whenever that happens it always starts with side cramps. Somebody suggested that it happened to them before and it was an improper plant coming downhill too fast which may have been the case. Post race
Warm down: Ate some food then to the Y for 20 minute whirlpool and 10 minute steam. More food then some coffee. Self massage and foam roller at home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Right calf Event comments: The after events were much better last year. There were more vendors and not having a recovery drink present was very disappointing. Last updated: 2011-12-27 12:00 AM
