Pre-race routine:

taper? the weeks exercise
The start point is only 10 miles from home
Awoke 7am, had scrambled eggs on toast, slowly got ready putting car on car etc.
As I didn't think I'd have time I din't plan to shower afterwards at the Liesure Centre. Wished afterwards that I'd planned to wash there and not at home.

Event warmup:

Overcast weather to start, just kept warm.
Planned to warm up on the ride itself - this wasn't done properly.
Bike
  • 2h 11m 52s
  • 28.12 miles
  • 12.80 mile/hr
Comments:

The A-road surface was smooth, but we were on other roads most of the time.
Passing terrific scenery.
The weather seemed just right, dry, not too hot.
I went faster than expected, perhaps because I'd rested well and I was racing, not simply working out.
What would you do differently?:

Next year I will take the day off and go for the 62.5 mile [100 km]
need to train to build legs and speed
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching in the now hot sun
eatting Lion Bar, bananas and lots water supplied by event organiser

What limited your ability to perform faster:

strength perhaps
bike perhaps

Event comments:

It was the first Pembrokeshire Cycle Challenge, organised by Tenby and Saundersfoot Lion, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief [£1,200 so far for this event]
There were lots of volunteers, some very well organised, others seemed asleep - best to know your route and not wait for them to point it out, I saw several take wrong turns.
I'm sure this event is going to grow in poopularity, [oops]
