Run
Comments: I paced with my girlfriend who was running her first half, so I was slower from the beginning. I feel like this hurt me in the end, as I was 20 minutes slower than my last half. The last "loop" on King George was mentally defeating, in all other Annapolis races that I've done once you get off the bridge you run it into the stadium, but for this event we had one last loop. There are plenty of other places to get mileage. I tried GU for the first time and 3 days post race, the idea of it still makes me want to hurl. It was at mile 12, and I thought hell why not... it wsa vanillia flavored, and I so when I looked at it and expected it to be creamy looking and it was a clear brown color I was disgusted. I know I didn't train for it well enough, and I ended up with my first blister (boo!) I felt pretty good until mile 11, and at that point I just wanted to stop. What would you do differently?: run the race for myself Post race
Warm down: walking and stretching, rehydrating. Once I got home I stretched more and used the foam roller. The next day I wore my compression pants, which I think helped. Event comments: I prefer the course for the Annapolis Half last fall, this course is mentally tough with the last loop. The course was to be "closed" to traffic for 3 hours, but we got taken off the street at 2:30 by a cop blaring his bullhorn, that was just before mile marker 12, where of course the sidewalk is completely riped up and narrow. Then I had a medic 4-wheeler behind me on the sidewalk, I was like really... honestly, first the cop then the medical support. Anyway, we'll see if I do this race again, there are other races I liked better, but maybe I'll come back next year just to prove to myself that I can do better. Last updated: 2012-01-04 12:00 AM
