Swim
Comments: This is the third leg of the race. I jumped in still breathing hard from the bike/transition run. For the first 25 meters or so I was having trouble getting my breath and started to panic. After a while I stopped for just a couple seconds and made myself calm down. When I started again I forced myself into my normal breathing pattern and was able to eventually get into a groove. I got passed but I also passed some people! There were some people doing very... unique... strokes in the middle of the lanes. Making it difficult to pass. Over all I am happy with my swim. What would you do differently?: Get a grip on the breathing sooner. Transition 1
Comments: This is a reverse tri so T1 is run to bike. I felt like it went smoothly. I was going through it in my head for the last 1/2 mile or so of the run. I put my bike shoes on and ran in them to the bike mount. My bike was set in a small gear so I was able to get on and get up to speed pretty quickly. My shoes locked in smoothly too. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, maybe try to speed up. Only 7 women in my AG beat me in T1 and T2 Bike
Comments: I enjoy this bike route. It has some hills and some flats. There were some fairly windy spots on the route but nothing near as bad as I've seen while training. It was difficult to pass in some spots as people were clumped up. I was concerned about being penalized so I may have been too conservative in my passing. I didn't unclip to make the U-turns. Last year when I did another race on the same course I was more sketchy about the turns so my improvement there is a welcome one. What would you do differently?: Be more aggressive passing. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was the bike to swim transition. Again I pictured it as I was completeing my bike segment. I felt pretty good about my dismount and run to my spot. I pulled off shoes & helmet quickly, grabbed my goggles and headed to the pool. I did slow for just a bit at the wrong door but I don't think that cost me more than a second or two. What would you do differently?: move faster? Only 7 women in my AG beat me in T1 and T2 Run
Comments: Started out great for the first mile or so then once the course started down a hill I got the dreaded side stitch. I held my side and kept running through it. For the entire course I aimed for the next person in front of me to "pick them off". Eventually the stitch went away and I was able to relax and enjoy the run again. One water station at about half way. What would you do differently?: Figure out how to get rid of the re-curring side cramp! Post race
Warm down: Walked around a bit. My DH brought me a Trader Joes choc milk so I drank that and had half a banana from the food table. What limited your ability to perform faster: side stich, slight panic in the swim Event comments: I like the course for this whole race. The run course and the bike course are fun and interesting and the 50 meter pool is a great one for a tri. The event was well organized with maybe the exception of the log-jam to get on base. This one also has assigned transition spots which I LOVE! Last updated: 2012-01-05 12:00 AM

Woke up just before 5:30 and got dressed. Made some PB on toast and a chai. Ate on the drive. Drank the chai until 6:30 then switched to FRS until 7:15. Stopped drinking at that point.
Set up transition. Got body marked/chipped. Talked with people nearby. Mapped out routes to/from entry/exit.
Not much warm-up.
