Pre-race routine:

This was a race (fun run, nontimed) that I did with my family. My wife, my 7 and 3 year old daughters, and my 7 year olds friend. This race was about fun for my girls and not time. My daughter's friend spent the night, so I knew they would be tired from goofing around and staying up to late. I got everybody up and made some breakfast and packed a bag with waters and snacks, put the running stroller in the car and we left for the race.
Event warmup:

There were a lot of people there so it was really croweded. We walked around and watched and cheered the timed event people come into the finish line. Stretched and drank some water. Being that I had my 3 year old in a running stroller we had to start at the back of the pack with all the other stroller people. Told my wife to go up front with the older girls and that I would catch them along the way.

Comments:

Being that we had to go to the back with all the other stroller people, we were probably about 2 blocks from the start line. When the gun went off it was just a slow walk with no way of passing due to crowding. Eventually the crowd thinned enough that I could start weaving through the crowds. At about the 2 mile mark, I caught my wife and older girls who were walking. My wife said the girls didn't want to run, so I told her to go ahead and I'd stay with them. We had a good time, jogging a little, walking and the girls even played patty cake along the way. All the girls really got a kick out of the cheering down the road to the finish line. They were pumping their little fists in the air as they crossed the finish line. I was a proud papa for sure to watch my daughter completer her first 5K.
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing. Was a perfect day.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, and talked to several people that we know. Drank some water and ate popsicles. We thought about going into the zoo, but it was just way to crowded, and the girls all wanted to go eat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My daughter would have run much faster and further if she didn't have her friend with her, but I don't know if she would of had as much fun.

Event comments:

This race is very organized, and very crowded. I think there was a little over 8000 participants in three races (10K, 5K timed and 5K fun run). Probably half were in the fun run.
