Pre-race routine:

Up at 0430 got everyone ready and went. Ate a breakfast bar and drank some gaterade on the way to race. Got there at about 0615 and mostly watched the guys with the expensive bikes. Got to T1 and asked where to setup so I would be out of the way of the speedsters.
Event warmup:

I went on first bus and stood in the water up to my knees. The air was cold but the water felt warm.

Comments:

Started last in the swim, not in a hurry. After a short distance I was bumping into the other swimmers. I had a hard time getting around some of them. I would swim a few strokes than have to wait. The swim was easy but it was my first open water swim.
What would you do differently?:

Start on the outside and in front of others. Give back some distance for a clear swim.

I was not in a hurry mostly walked to T1. Got out of suit, dried off had some water than sat down to put on socks and shoes, put helmet on and was off.

Started out OK then hit the wind. My hybrid bike and my big body in the wind was like a sail pushing me backwards. The first half of the bike I think everyone passed me. The thing I heard the most was "ON YOUR LEFT" The second half was a good pace and I passed a few so I felt better. I forgot my Garmin in the car that sucked.
What would you do differently?:

Get a road bike.

Get to the rack faster and not change shirts.

I did walk at the beginning and a runner that was finishing said" It's a race get going!" So I did. I stopped at the water station and on a few of the hills. My pace was slow
What would you do differently?:

I would do some bricks and increase my running time.

Warm down:

Walked around the transition then got some snacks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The unknowing of how my body would handle the three events one after another. I did go slower due to the unknown.

Event comments:

It is hard to rate this race, it's my first. It seemed organized and the volunteers were friendly and encouraging.
