Run
Comments: I wasn't happy with my finishing time, but I was shooting for a PR and probably went out a bit too hard. I was stretching for around a 17:45, and was around that pace for the first mile (5:42), but I faded, rather than coming on strong for the second two miles (5:53, 6:03) for a pretty bad positive split. I did have a good finishing kick to pass a few people over the last 1/4 mile, though. I guess you don't know if you can run a certain time unless you try, and I can write this down as a fail. However, I'm four weeks out from the Boston Marathon and doing 60-70 mile marathon training weeks, so very little speed stuff. I missed a PR by 5 seconds, and was 13 seconds faster on the same course as I was back in December, so something positive there. The weather was also a bit warmer than usual for this time of year - 65 degrees in mid March is definitely warm for the Boston area. I'm just hoping it's no warmer than this in a month for the big race! What would you do differently?: Go Faster! I guess pacing was an issue. Going out closer to 5:48 would have probably been better. Just a few seconds can make a big difference. Post race
Warm down: Walked a bit, grabbed a water, then jogged 1/2 mile back to my car. Event comments: Still not the time I wanted. Maybe in the fall I can find a flatter 5k course to break into the 17's. Last updated: 2012-01-17 12:00 AM

Race wasn't until 11:00, so I didn't get up until 7:30, and had a regular breakfast, then left the house a bit before 9:30.
Got in a little over 2 1/2 miles with some strides at goal race pace.
