Pre-race routine:

Many miles preparing for race. Did quite a few on the MTB at Buck Creek Trails here in Abilene getting ready. Also did quite a few miles running on base and around Abilene to get ready. 4 mile average for most runs.
Event warmup:

None
Run
  • 12m 57s
  • 1.55 miles
  • 08m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Great first run but was cold to start as it was raining and about 43 degrees. Warmed up nice at the turn around point.
What would you do differently?:

Work more on my runs. I am not a great runner and I have to work hard at it.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Average time as no mat was placed due to lightening.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 41m 31s
  • 10.5 miles
  • 15.17 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride, need to check out bike as my uphills were slow and sluggish. Center crank bearings are stiff/tight.
What would you do differently?:

Tune/clean bike, work on road rides with long hills to build stamina and endurance.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Average time again as they did not have timing mat coming into the transition due to lightening.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 13m 24s
  • 1.55 miles
  • 08m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run even in the rain, kept very cool.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Standing in the rain with jeans and a carhart jacket on waiting for awards :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Uphills on the bike were not best. Need to work on road bike riding with hills to build stamina. Also need to work over my bike as I think the crank bearings are tight. Time with family and work greatly limited my prep time, but I do not regret it, even at my worst race pace I am passing everyone at home on the couch :)

Event comments:

Great race even considering the threat of lightening. Redemption even feeds spectators :)
