Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Quick ride on my bike to make sure it was working ;) before setting up transition.

Debated on wetsuit or no wetsuit.....
Swim
  • 08m 19s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

I went out hard and found a pair of feet to draft off...he lasted about another 100 and then I went around him. I got in to a nice pace....but at one point I thought to my self that most of the wave swam past me. I pushed it back to shore and started my mantra for the race of "make it hurt"
I made good turns and sighted well on this swim and hope I can continue in future races.

My GF shouted that I was about 18th out of the water (results say 21st but she was close) from my wave…so my above thought was not true and I had a strong swim
What would you do differently?:

Swim hard longer
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

I was tired so I walked through T1- once I got to my bike I got moving again.
What would you do differently?:

run through T1
Bike
  • 28m 57s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.73 mile/hr
Comments:

I knew I had to ride hard and make it hurt some. When my mind wandered I went to my mantra "make it hurt" this kept me pushing through the bike. I took a few small drinks but kept my self aero and pace/tempo high
What would you do differently?:

keep working on the motor!
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

I got off my bike and I was feeling good. I moved through T2 and got out on the run!
Run
  • 17m 7s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

My training has been run focused lately so I was hoping to see some positive results. I got out on the run and was feeling good-I kept my mantra going "make it hurt)and watched where I stepped. I made the turn around and told myself to push hard when I hit the trail...I also started looking at peoples legs to see AGs. I was passed by someone in my AG just past the turn around in hind sight I should have latched on and ran with him.

I came out of the woods and was on the home stretch where I opened it up and passed 2 more people.

The course this year was longer and probably 2 miles so the time difference to my race last year is okay.
What would you do differently?:

My training seems to be on the right path with my run so I am hoping to see continuing improvements
Post race
Warm down:

Had a solid mental and physical run-goal 1 achieved

looked at the clock and saw I was ~1:30 faster than last year--goal 2 achieved!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

need to keep working and adding some speed work. This year I am pushing my distance so I am not doing too much speed work

Event comments:

This is a good beginners race and not a tough course.
