Pre-race routine:

Up early and breakfast at home. We got to the finish area around 5 to wait in line for the shuttles to the start. The bus driver took a couple of wrong turns so the trip to the Del Mar Fairgrounds took about 45 minutes (normally it would take about 20). I'm not complaining though, the seat in the bus was much warmer and more comfortable than the concrete near the start!
Event warmup:

Jogging, dynamic stretches, nothing too exotic or crazy.

Comments:

It was a good run. It did seem a lot more crowded this year than in years past. It took me almost the whole first 5 miles to get some open road to run on. The hills seemed harder this year, maybe I wasn't as ready for them as I thought! The worst part was the Sunday morning bikers that kept yelling at us to "move over" since we were in the way of their ride. So sorry that the road was closed for this race and you chose to ignore the signs and the ~6500 people running down the road. We didn't realize it was such an inconvenience to you! I should have pushed him over!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. It was a good race.
Post race
Warm down:

Little bit of walking and lots of waiting to get through the crowd.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Guess I need to work on the hills some more!

Event comments:

The race is great. The course is challenging and has some awesome views of the ocean! The organization of the race leaves something to be desired. While it is mostly organized, it is far too crowded. From the packet pickup to the race finish it is just way too congested and crazy! The start was supposed to have 3 waves, but there were no corrals or lines or signs to indicate where people should be waiting for each wave. This led to mass confusion and a huge bottleneck at the start line. Same idea in reverse at the finish line. Everybody goind through one tiny line to get out and of the finish area. And for some strange reason, all of the refreshments at the finish line were inside the finish area. I made the mistake of walking out of the area to get my jacket and wasn't allowed back in to get a cup of water. How lame! Either way, the event is great, but I expect the logistics of the race to go much smoother, especially considering this was the 31st time the race was run!

Course: Hilly course! I don't remember it being that difficult of a course last year. Still, the worst hill is not the big Torrey Pines hill at mile 6, it's the one at mile 12 leading you up to the finish!
