Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 4:45, Ate a waffle w/ PB and some cereal. Drove an hour to the race. Ate a Cliff Bar about 30 minutes from the start.
Event warmup:

This was a point to point race. We parked in a garage that was about half way between the start and finish. Jogged from the garage to the start (about 1-1.5 miles) Went to the bathroom, jogged some more with a few strides. Stretched.

Comments:

I forgot my Honey Stinger chews in my bag so had no nutrition on me. They didn't hand out any nutrition until mile 9. By then, my stomach was not going to take anything. I tried to down a GU, but only took about a third of it and tossed it. So, only had water and a small amount of Gatorade during the whole race. It showed towards the end. My goal was to break 1:30. I'm thinking if I had proper nutrition, it possible could have been done.

Also, it was very windy. The winds were blowing at 20-25 miles per hour. (Temp at the end of the race was 38, feels like 29) Loved the cold, hated the wind. The 1st 6 miles of the race were either with a tail wind or the buildings blocked a lot of the wind, because I didn't really notice it. The last half of the race, was out along the bay with no obstructions, and was either a direct headwind or crosswind. I tried to find a group to "draft" off of, but they were few and far between.

I just held on as best I could and tried to finish strong. Even though, I didn't meet my goal, I'm still pretty happy with my performance. I PR'd by a little over a minute, so that's something to be proud of.

Splits
7:00 - Oops, need to play catch up
7:20 - Crap, I though I sped up! (Turns out mile marker was off)
5:59 - OK, realized now mile markers were off
6:46
6:43
6:38
6:52
7:02 - That's OK, I had some time in the bank to still break 1:30
7:01
5:58 - Mile markers off
8:47 - See previous mile's comment
14:47 - This was approx. the last 2.1 miles. Didn't stay on top of splits as much towards the end of the race as I was mentally psyching myself out getting kind of down thinking I probably was going to no meet my goal.

What would you do differently?:

Not forget my nutrition.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little, but there was no "warming" down. It was freezing!! And we had to walk a mile back to the car which was torture. It took us 10 minutes in the car with the heat on to stop shaking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of nutrition, WIND!

Event comments:

The only complaints I have are:
- Parking and shuttle should be free. If you wanted to park at the start it was $15. Then $5 to take the shuttle back to your car at the end of the race. We parked half way between start and finish in a garage for $5, which wouldn't have been too bad if it wasn't so darn cold.
-Mile markers were a little off. This shows in my splits.

Course: Flat course through St. Pete by the stadium. Half the run was nestled in some streets surrounded by buildings and then the second half takes you out along streets that line the Bay with about a 1.5-2 mile stretch that took you out and back on the pier around the Columbia Restaurant. Very nice Course.
