Swim
Comments: Stayed in the middle of the start, was planning an outside swim. Turned out this is better, got a good draft and didn't get pushed around too much. Only 1 head shot, a few arm grabs and lots of leg pushdowns. What would you do differently?: Maybe start further ahead. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time in the change area. Had to pee as well, took some time there. Made sure to have a protein shake and dry off well. missed the suntan station and had to go back. What would you do differently?: Given how long I took, I might plan a full change next time, or push it faster throughout. Bike
Comments: Probably could have gone faster, but this was my first Ironman distance, and I didn't want to bonk on the run. Great climbs, passed a ton of people. Stayed aero most of the ride. What would you do differently?: Ride a little harder on the flats. Transition 2
Comments: Again, a long transition. not sure why, but I did ensure another protein shake, lots of sunscreen, and another pee break. What would you do differently?: Move faster. Run
Comments: Just about right overall. Used ice down the back to cool, plus ice in the hands to cool and 'zen out' with. Walked at the aid stations, and a few other locations. Once I knew Emily was 30 minutes behind, I ran more, walked less. What would you do differently?: No Pringles (at the special needs bag. Had 2 chips and my stomach rebelled. barely kept it down). I had expected about 6 hours. Post race
Warm down: Got a massage, slept overnight on the massage table. Excellent way to cool down. No food, couldn't put in anything other than liquid. What limited your ability to perform faster: Caution. I could have ridden faster. Event comments: This is my first, and the last Ironman Canada at Penticton, so I was happy to finish where I did. Last updated: 2012-01-21 12:00 AM
