Run
  • 18m 50s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

took it easy since this was my first multisport race. my pace was about 20 sec/mile slower than my typical 5K race pace
What would you do differently?:

run faster!
Transition 1
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

since this was a short biathlon, i decided to use running shoes and toe clips instead of clipless pedals, so transition was just putting on helmet and walking out of the transition area
Bike
  • 36m 14s
  • 10.4 miles
  • 17.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I just got a new road bike (specialized allez sport) last week; before I was riding a hybrid. Unfortunately I was only able to ride about 25 miles before today's race; on my regular routes I seemed to be about 3 mph faster but I wasn't really used to the new bike yet. When I started the bike segment I seemed to be averaging over 17 mph, which is pretty fast for me, and it seemed too easy, so I thought with the excitement of my first race I was pushing myself, so I decided to take it a little easier so i would be ok for the run. Also I seem to have forgotten to drink much, because my water bottle was pretty full.
What would you do differently?:

Drink and go faster!
Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

No shoes to change so not really much of a transition
Run
  • 18m 48s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 08m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

when i first got off the bike everything felt great except my left achilles which was tight. I hurt it last year in a 5K race (slipped on some wet leaves, duh!), so I took it very slowly at first, but after the first mile it felt better so I picked up the pace for the second mile. Everything feels fine tonight.
What would you do differently?:

run the second half a little faster
Post race
Warm down:

walked around the parking lot

Event comments:

Race was held in Prospect Park in Brooklyn which was beautiful. This was my first biathlon and I had a great time, and I am pleased with my performance, but I need to pace myself better because I should have pushed a little more. Overall a great experience and I can't wait til my next race.
