Total Time = 5h 46m 55s
Overall Rank = 31/111

Age Group Rank = 4/9
Pre-race routine:

Froze. Tried my best to stay warm. Much colder than any tri I had ever done. Tried to stay hydrated, had a gel right before the start.
Event warmup:

The "warmup" was to go from 39 degree air into 61 degree water. Did a very short swim to try to generate some body heat.
Swim
  • 32m 32s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a good swim. Once we got moving, it wasn't too bad. had to dodge some hydrilla on one segment of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Ideally, a full wetsuit would have been good. Otherwise, it was a good swim for me.
Transition 1
  • 05m 12s
Comments:

Normally this T1 would be atrocious. Under these conditions, it actually wasn't too bad. I was numb and it just took a long time to get shoes, gloves, extra shirt, etc.
What would you do differently?:

I really couldn't have gone any faster.
Bike
  • 3h 11m 30s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.55 mile/hr
Comments:

I am not a strong rider, so this was about what I expected. Nice course, great police & volunteer support.

This was by far my coldest bike ride. I was freezing for about the first half of it and my feet were numb the entire time.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a new bike and train harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

My T2 was pretty good. My feet were numb and it took a little extra time to get my shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 1h 55m 56s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

I had targeted a faster run, but I just didn't quite have it in me that day. I started to fade energy wise at about mile 10. I had one last gel and managed to finish in decent shape.
What would you do differently?:

I should have taken in more calories earlier in the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and ate pizza

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The cold conditions were a limiting factor.

I should have trained more for this half - I did enough but just barely.

I need to work on the bike big time this winter.

Event comments:

As usual, Set Up put on a great race. Volunteer/police support was tremendous. Definitely recommend this venue and the Waterman's races.

Very cold race - I will definitely remember this one!
