Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30. Woke up the family. Finished packing misc. stuff. Drove a short way to the race at Moody Gardens. Set up my transition mat. Eat a peanut butter wheat bagel two hours before the race. One hour before the race had an energy drink and two Endurolytes. 30 minutes before the race had a Honey Stinger. Read to go.
Event warmup:

Jumped in the water 5 minutes prior to wave start. Did a few minutes of swimming and some nervous chatter with fellow AG'ers.
Swim
  • 35m 49s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

The sun was not an issue, it was just coming up and there was some cloud cover. There were 3 waves of Males 40-44.
What would you do differently?:

I was in the first wave. I think I may have started a little fast. I would probably start slowly and build into a faster pace with better breathing
Transition 1
  • 05m 58s
Comments:

I probably took to much time in T1 but I was trying to stay calm.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get my Tri shoes fitted and dialed in.
Bike
  • 2h 56m 34s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.03 mile/hr
Comments:

I took it pretty easy on the first 15 or so miles and then started to pick it up. I felt like I was losing ground. At this point I probably started pedaling to hard.
What would you do differently?:

Don't get inpatient and start mashing on the pedals.
Transition 2
  • 05m 53s
Comments:

After probably spent to much time. I sat down put body glide on my feet knowing I get hot spots.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I need to stay relaxed and treat me feet before the run.
Run
  • 2h 12m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I need to figure out my hot spot issues. Putting the cold sponges in my hat seemed to work great. Probably don't need the fuel belt.
Post race
Event comments:

I thought the course was great. The swim was good. The bike course is flat and the run was flat with lots of spectators. Great venue. I'll do it again!
