Swim
Comments: Great 65 yd sprint to first turn and was 4th around the buoy. Had a great draft for the first 480 yds before losing it due to being overheated from the 82 degree water. The last 270 I was lapping slower swimmers and got caught up at the turns a bit. What would you do differently?: Keep my draft for the entire distance. Transition 1
Comments: Had to run in shoes due to the rough surface. What would you do differently?: Arrive earlier to get more space in T. Bike
Comments: Headwind was tough...cranking at my 25 mph cadence and averaging 15 mph. Transition 2
Comments: Fairly slow but took a minute to drink and make certain my speed laces were adjusted correctly. What would you do differently?: Try eating something while transitioning. Run
Comments: Could have gone faster and left a bit more on the course as I cruzed into the finish talking with my training partner and my 10 and 5 year old sons in tow. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace earlier. Post race
Warm down: Walked a bit and cooled down. Packed up transition and took in more fluid. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wind Event comments: Good bike direction support and a crew sweeping up gravel on a high speed turn. The run portion only had a water station at the turn. Ate mini bagel with peanut butter, started gatorade with gatorlyte mix as I'm prone to leg cramps in the run. Ate one bag of power bar bites on the drive. Arrived at 9:00 for a 10:20 wave start, found a tight spot in transition for my bike, registration, etc.
Quick 3 min swim to get used to the water.
