Pre-race routine:

1/2 cup oatmeal and 1 cup coffee for breakfast. Drank lots of water during the drive to the race which neccesitated a trip to the porta potty as soon as I got there.
Event warmup:

Not much of a warm up. Figured I would warm up as I ran. Did some light stretching.

Comments:

Felt really good and strong the first 6 miles. No pain in my left achilles which had been bothering me for a while. Ended up having some horrible calf cramps starting at mile 10. Around mile 11.5 someone who had already finished the race ended up coming back and running to the end with me and helping me thru my cramps. Really appreciated that!
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what was the cause of all the calf cramps. Felt like I drank enough during the race and didnt feel dehydrated but maybe I was. Guess I probably need to try to drink more during races even if it feels like I am going to barf.

Warm down:

Light stretching of ankles, calves, quads, and hams.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Without a doubt calf cramps. Was on track today to PR but with the cramps I was only able to run .1 to .25 miles at a time without stopping during the last 2 miles.

Event comments:

Great post race food with pizza, subs, and cheese soup. Will definetly look for this race again next year.
