Swim
Comments: I started out entirely too hard. My plan was to swim conservatively. My wave was very spread out and I ended up toward the front of the wave. At the start I attacked the water instead of taking it easy. Between starting out way too fast and not being comfortable in the crowd I got winded early. At this point in my swimming ability it's difficult to get my wind back while on the move swimming. I sucked it up and got through it, but it was not my best performance. Definitely a learning experience. What would you do differently?: Go with the original plan, easy does it. Training needs to include more OWS work and possibly trying to swim in groups. Transition 1
Comments: I had a good plan for transition. The layout of equipment was good. Things went smoothly. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I took the first mile to catch myself after the swim. Good mental approach. Put the swim behind and concentrated on the race ahead. I felt good during the bike. Hills were ok. I spent the time on the bike to hydrate well and plan out the rest of the race. I definitely got things back on track on the bike. What would you do differently?: Overall a good ride. Transition 2
Comments: Once again a good plan for transition. It helped to mentally rehearse it in the last mile of the ride. T2 went smoothly. Good job. Run
Comments: Good run. I had good energy going into the run. The Bricks paid off, transition to a running pace was very easy. Felt good and had a good pace. Post race
Warm down: Not a lot of warm down. Great support from friends so I didn't spend a lot of attention on warm down. What limited your ability to perform faster: The swim put a dent in me, but I overcame it well. Event comments: Great event. Wonderful transition area. Not a huge expo, but I'm not sure if that's normal for an event this size. The course is great. This park was made for triathlon. Last updated: 2012-01-30 12:00 AM

I had my gear laid out a couple days before the event. I packed the truck the night before and laid out my clothes. Breakfast was oatmeal with raisins. I slept well that week and got out the door smoothly.
I got to the event early and set up the transition area with plenty of time to spare. I put on my wetsuit and got in the water about 30min before the start. I swam a little and talked to other competitors.
