Run
Comments: Started the run at my own pace... felt comfortable and did not worry about what others were doing... 2.3 miles into the run my right IT band let me know it was still there but I pressed on. The last 3/4 mile of the run was on a single track trail... very scenic but hard to pass others and required a lot of diligence to prevent turning an ankle. 4/9 AG and 78/140 Overall What would you do differently?: Not a bad start for me given my physical conditioning to this point as well as IT band issues. Transition 1
Comments: Missed the right pedal not once or twice... but THREE times! First race of the year and T1 proved to be a bit rusty! What would you do differently?: Clip in faster to get up to speed more quickly. Bike
Comments: I threw the chain off the front on a double shift up the last climb at 10.5 miles... cost me some time but overall it was my fastest split on this particular course. 2/9 AG and 28/140 Overall What would you do differently?: Not throw the chain... also... I had a GU Chocolate Outrage on the way back... which is my favorite flavor... but then chased it with Lemon Lime electrolyte drink... NOT a good combination. Transition 2
Comments: T2 again was rusty... I decided to not ride in with feet on top of shoes just because I had not yet practiced it this year. What would you do differently?: Practice more! Run
Comments: A good 2nd run for me... once we exited the woods I was able to really open up my gate and cruised the last 1/2 mile at a fast pace. Post race
Warm down: NutriGrain bar and OJ What limited your ability to perform faster: Back and neck issues, IT Band issue, Current physical conditioning not optimal for racing yet. 55/140 overall 2/9 AG Event comments: Team Magic runs a great event and Bike Link is an exceptional sponsor. Up early for the drive to Birmingham... coffee and an almond butter and sugar free raspberry jelly sandwich on Ezekial bread for breakfast.
Light stretching and easy, short jog.
