Swim
Comments: As soon as the race started I was immediately comfortable in the water. I tried to focus on speed and forum while not loosing count of the laps. I felt my turns were good and I was able to maintain a good pace. I had done a 400 the previous week and was expecting an 8:30ish time. When she said 7:46 I was elated! What would you do differently?: Not a thing! Transition 1
Comments: Transisions were not timed because of safety concerns of having wet people running through the facility. That being said I wanted to push myself through the transisions. I dried off and changed quickly. Then grabbed both my running and biking shoes and a couple of bottles of water and headed up to the cycle room. What would you do differently?: In this Tri, nothing. Bike
Comments: I got into the cycle room threw my biking shoes on and jumped on a bike. I got about two minutes in and the check-in guy asked me if I was warming up and I said no I was going. He informed me that I was on the wrong bike and that I needed to move. DOH! They were cool about it and adjusted my distance on the new bike to what I had on on the other. After that I just went. Kept my cadence between 90-100 the entire time. I felt really good about it. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this went about as well as I could have hoped for. Transition 2
Comments: I moved quickly from the spin room to the cardio room. I've heard about "tired legs" when transisioning from the bike to the run and I wanted to experience that in this closed environment, which ment get to the treadmill as quickly as possible. Run
Comments: I jumped on an open treadmill and started. Just as I got up to speed the TM died. I thought about it for a second and decided to just move to another one instead of messing with that one. I got started again and quickly settled into a groove. I never experienced the "heavey legs" but I assume it was because of the short distance of the bike. This run was what I was most worried about. I hadn't run seriously in over 7 months so this made me really nervous. My plan before I started was to try and maintain a 12MM pace. Once I got on the TM that plan came together. I ran for 5 min, walked for 3, then ran again for 5, walked for 4, and finished out the distance running. I felt really good at the end and managed to push up the TM speed for the last 90 seconds. What would you do differently?: Nothing, I stuck to my plan and made it under my goal Post race
Warm down: I did a quick walk through the facility and then showered, changed, and met my family for breakfast. Event comments: This was my first Tri ever and the experience was awesome. I know that I have a long way to go but whenever I need some extra motivation I think about how I felt when I finished the race and it keeps me going. The race was perfect for my current ability. My goal for 2012 is to run an Olympic distance Tri and this was the first step. When I started training on the 2nd of Janurary I weighed 330lbs. The day before this event I weighed 316lbs, that progress is in and of itself enough to keep doing this. Last updated: 2012-02-02 12:00 AM

I got up with my alarm and had a peanut butter and honey sandwich on a whole wheat round prior to leaving the house. Got to the YMCA about an hour prior to my heat. I watched a heat start in the pool and then walked through the facility to check out the flow of the event. Saw a couple of people I knew from my Tri traing group. After getting a feel for the flow I changed into my swim suit and headed back to the pool.
I did a real easy 100 focusing on forum.
