Pre-race routine:

Got to park early thought it would be packed, based on the emails saying this year there would be upwards of 600 runners. Because of this I expected tight running and with the rain MUD all over.

Anyway arrived and had a coke and just relaxed until 9:30.
Event warmup:

At that point hopped out of the car and started to warm up and figure out where the start was.
Run

Comments:

WOW. This year we started on the low side of the pond so the first thin you do is run up a wet hill to the landing next to the pond. From that point the course seemed to be the same as years past with one big new obstacle. MUD, the course in the trail area was just sloppy. And you found this out very quickk into the trail entrance. You had little ability to stop when heading down a slope. you basically tried to steer yourself toward grass, trees and hopefully not the barb wire fence!!!

So with this new obstacle it was always in the back of my mind to keep the stride length in control and try to run on the sides as much as possiible.

The first two miles are the same as the last running through the single track . once out of the trail we hit the horse trails which is the turn point for the 4 miler and the 12K keeps on trucking. This part of the run was not affected by the mud as much just because a good portion is grass or just a little more "canopied" by trees so not as muddy. The highlight of this section is you run next to a field and today we saw a deer running right toward us at full speed and then it jumps the fence behind us with little effort. Amazing how fast and smooth it mad that look!!!!! Coming out of this portion the down hill to the bridge that leads back to the last two mile trail was a mix of sand and mud. I about bit it two or three times coming down this hill. It is basically a road that is about a half a block long.

Once back in the trails my legs were shot. I tried to keep a light pace but uphills with the slippery footing seemed to just suck my energy down. Finally got to the last uphill to get out of the woods and amazingly started to crramp slighltly. i was able to jog easy to the finish but could not put much effort out to get under the 1:27:00 mark. So I guess the 1:25:00 mark is still on my to do for next year.

Great race as always.
What would you do differently?:

carry gatorade and some food. forgot both this year.

I mark this below average based on my lag of liquid/food. my fault. not the Race.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk to vehicle relax eat a granola bar. Went and grabbed a couple beers and a Subway sandwich

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just the slick conditions

Event comments:
