Swim
Comments: This was my 4th race and I swam so much better this time. I kept my freaking out to a minimum prior to starting and made sure I got in the front away from the chaos. I ran in for a ways as it was shallow and then swam - using the sighting training my tri club taught me. This year was much better than last year, BUT I really need to swim and train more. What would you do differently?: I am so pleased with this swim, I finally GET IT. I just wish I trained harder so I could just go all out on the swim. Transition 1
Comments: Again, I really felt like I was running a race this time instead of surviving it. I skipped socks and just put my bike shoes on - this makes a huge difference! Bike
Comments: I could not find the "power" I usually have in my legs. I felt really weak so I just tried to push as much as I could and still enjoy the race. I got up to a great cruising speed of 21 mph on hwy 41, and I LOVE the hills. My bike is my favorite thing on earth, such a trusty steed! What would you do differently?: hmmm - I just needed more training and strength trainging. Transition 2
Comments: Well, I fell off my bike. Second time I have done this and I wish it was a glorious story of cruising down a hill or something. Nope, for me it always happens at a complete standstill, except yesterday it happened right before you head into T2 in front of the anouncer. He was so nice though, he told EVERYONE via his megaphone "hey, it's ok! it happens to everyone". I scrambled up and realized I had landed really hard on my hip bone. I sucked it up and got out of T2 to see my sweet little 3 year old and boyfriend cheering me on, made me feel all better. What would you do differently?: not get caught up with folks who dont understand passing rules. Ladies, if you cant pass someone dont ride next to them! man, happened over and over causing a jumble of bikes in areas - especially coming into T2. Run
Comments: My hip was killing me from my crash and my legs were so locked up from the bike ride. took almost 2 miles to loosen up! I just enjoyed this race so much more this year, I felt stronger and looked forward to the awesome finish line. What would you do differently?: I need to come to terms with the fact that I might never run a 9 minute mile. then I will feel better. Post race
Warm down: That finish line is fantastic. Seriously, the showers are just my favorite part! Lines were a tad long for the t-shirts and food but it was fun regardless. I ate some Nutella and Ham (odd combo of food!) and chilled out with my friends then hopped on the trolly back to the car. What limited your ability to perform faster: I wasnt training hard enough for this race this summer and it really limited my ability to perform on the bike. Event comments: This race is my favorite - women are so supportive in nature and it's just great to see all kinds of people crossing the finish line. What a sense of accomplishment it is! ooof! Well, after going to bed late and waking up twice to take care of my son I certainly wouldnt say I was well-rested. Man. I woke up at 4:30 to get on the road by 5. Once I got to the race-site I got a bit nervous, I ate a bowl of Kashi cereal and sipped Gatorade before I left the house. I just relaxed with friends while I wated for the swim start.
This actually makes me more nervous so I try to just stretch and breathe deeply.
