Swim
Comments: decent swim, lost my warm-up due to delay between waves when a buoy got loose Transition 1
Bike
Comments: this was the frustrating part, did great out of T1, was going to pass a lot of people and get up into the top 3-5 in my age group, then flatted a mile into the bike, carried it back to transition (a mile in bike shoes sucks), the guys from Belmont Wheelworks fixed it for me while I chatted with my friend Ray who won the overall/elite division (yeah he was already done), got my timing chip back and went nuts, destroyed the bike course on my second attempt, averaged 23.5 mph, if this was my lap I would have had the 4th quickest bike of the day. What would you do differently?: not flat Transition 2
Comments: sort of took my time in T2 knowing I wasn't racing for position any more Run
Comments: suffered after blowing it out on the bike, right hamstring started cramping, found out I'm comfortable running with HR into the mid 180's What would you do differently?: drink more Post race
Warm down: hit the slip & slide at the finish, made it to the end and fell in the pool What limited your ability to perform faster: flat tire Event comments: frustrating but fun day. a year ago i would have bagged it after the flat, now racing with a team I knew I had to get back out there to cheer people on. And seeing my friend racing as a guide for a blind triathlete while I was carrying my bike, snapped me out of my negative mindset. riding with anger I found some bike speed and confidence I didn't have before. I also learned I can race with my HR a bit higher and stay comfortable. Next up Rev3 Maine Half, can't wait ! Last updated: 2012-02-07 12:00 AM
