Swim
Comments: miserable, hyperventilating, couldn't get into a groove until after the first buoy. Thought my time would be about 45 minutes at the rate I was going. My heart rate was over 165 the whole time. Maybe an elevation issue as well-4700ft. Very disappointing, but did enjoy the majority of it. What would you do differently?: Should have started out at the back of the pack SLOWER. More OW swims although I did about 5 and felt great. Transition 1
Comments: dizzy as hell! Could not get my balance standing so i had to sit and lost some time. What would you do differently?: ?? I just get really disoriented and lose my balance getting out of the water after a freestyle swim. Any suggestions? Scopalamine patch for dizziness? Bike
Comments: pushed too hard both up and down hills, quads began tightening up at the end, preparing me for a miserable run. Otherwise, really enjoyed the ride and smiled the whole time. What would you do differently?: slow my pace, more bike intervals next time, more time on the bike Transition 2
Comments: needed to drink. Just finished camelback-2 liters of gatorade and 3 power bar goo pacs, starting to get dehydrated-temps around 95 degrees now, quads tight. Popped 3 endurolyte tabs What would you do differently?: Maybe a 3 liter camelback. Maybe a cooler tri location for my first! Run
Comments: miserable cramping throughout. Ran through most of it, walked about 5 minutes total and at every station (3). Now, 3 days later, still can't walk. What would you do differently?: more fluids, run more, maybe train at higher elevations and warmer temperatures Post race
Warm down: Walked around with my kids in each arm, drank some fluids, felt pretty nauseous, but the leg pain hadn't kicked in yet. What limited your ability to perform faster: The fact that I sustained my heart rate over 165 the whole time blows my mind. I was sure I would bonk at that level. The cramping quads killed my run, and the hyperventilating hurt my swim. Event comments: awesome experience, great race, well organized. I felt like I really gave it the most my body and mind could take. I'm suffering for it now however. It was too damn hot and too damn high for my training at sea level at 55 degree average. Will I do it next year, YOU BET! Will I do the Aluminum Man Oly tri in 2 months...of course! I'm hooked! Last updated: 2006-05-09 12:00 AM

Went with a group of buddies, first tri for 3 of us got up and drank a smoothie (bananas, blueberries, raspberries, soy, plain yogurt and acai juice-awesome!), a bagel, a cup of coffee, and power bar banana-strawberry paste (tasted great!)
We all got in the water and splashed around, swam about 100m, minimal stretch, felt great, heart rate cruising at about 80-not too anxious (or so I thought). Checked and double checked T1
