Comments:

Felt pretty good starting out and was in 3rd overall right at the start. At about 1 mile, my breathing got pretty heavy, the cold air was making lungs burn and my eyes water. At the turn around, the next guy behind me (Dallas Davidson) was coming at me about 10 seconds back, and the next guy (Shane Nepstad) about 10 seconds off of him. Right about the 2 mile mark Dallas passed me. At around 2.8 miles I looked back--next guy was a good 1-2 minutes back, but couldn't see who that was. It ended up being Shane.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. Its early in the year so this was a good test. I did go out the night before, had a few drinks and too much to eat. Maybe I would have been a little closer to 18 or sub 18, but who knows. Everyones got their excuse/reason for not doing better so it evens out. Who cares though--it was still fun and I consider most runs "Good" if you finish without injury and without getting sick or bailing out.

Warm down:

Walked around, coughed. Walked around some more, coughed some more. They froze from being wet. Oh, wait--what did I do to cool-down? Nothing really. Oops.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me.

Event comments:

NOTE: They have my time at 18:31, but it was 18:44 on my watch.

Performance: Good
Ave HR 176 Max HR 180 Mile 1= 5:37 Mile 2= 5:57 Started to really feel it just after the turnaround at 1.5. Mile 3= 6:00 Last 0.2= 1:10 All zone 5 so it must have been less than a minute from the start that my HR moved up to z5 as no time was captured on my HRM in zones lower than 5.
Course: Out and back course from Mayo HS onto Bear Creek Trail along the river, then back on the same route. GPS measured the course at 3.20 so it was a bit long. I think they measured it from the start line, out, back to the start line. However, to finish you had to run past the start line, turn into Mayo HS parking lot, they run a little more. That might have been the extra 0.1 miles.
